Advantages of being a non-traditional student are something you as a TRIO student should research and be aware of. Special scholarships and resources are available for First- Generation, Low-income, Students of Color, Students with Disabilities, Veterans, Foster Care students, transfer students etc.
Support Services at most colleges are offered to special populations in order to provide special assistance for students to stay in school.
Examples of offices that support these populations of students include:
Office of Multicultural Affairs
Commuter Student Services
Diversity Center
Education Opportunity Centers
Foster Care Assistance Centers
Learning Center
TRIO Support Services
Academic Support Services
First Generation Project
Access/ Center for Students with Disabilities
Veterans Center
It is important to know what population you fall into so you can advocate and be aware of the support services you need. Additionally, it is important to know how to research support services at the colleges you may be interested in transferring to. Speak with admission and other support staff to find out more about services that are available to you.
